Copper engraving, 147 x 188 mm, Dutch text,
map contents Latin
The map of Cyprus includes insets (separate small frames) with the Greek islands of Lemnos, Chios, Mytilene, Euboea, Kythera and Rhodes. This copy of the map is a recension, by Joannes Janssonius, of Hondius' map of 1607. This map came into Janssonius' possession in or before 1625, together with the other maps of this edition, which were newly engraved by Petrus Kaerius and A. Goos. This map is based on the second type of Ortelius' map of Cyprus (1573). On the map the districts are ancient, but the other toponyms are medieval.
