A supplement to the exhibition entitled "Cyprus at the Azimuths of the Wind" held in Thessaloniki in June 2003 within the context of events to mark the European Union Summit Conference. It is a deluxe publication that includes maps of Cyprus from the 14th to the 19th century by European cartographers of the time, from Ptolemy's Geography to representatives of all the great European schools of cartography — Italian, Dutch, British, German, French, Spanish, etc. The maps come from the Collection of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation and are complemented with illustrations taken from important publications on cartography. The maps are analysed with the use of pioneering techniques developed in recent years at the National Map Library on the basis of the orientation of the historical depictions of Cyprus compared with today's model, that is, of its azimuthal deviations from today's direction of north.
