Theatrical Performance "Ioannis Kapodistrias: in the footsteps of a great leader"

On 30 June, the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Greece will present a theatrical performance – part of a triptych project that includes an exhibition, an educational programme and a play – written specifically for this action – on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the Greek Revolution.

It is an original theatrical text about the life and actions of the first leader of Greece, Ioannis Kapodistrias, whose mother was of Cypriot origin.

It is a production of the General Directorate of Antiquities and Cultural Heritage and is combined with the organisation of a travelling exhibition about Ioannis Kapodistrias, which is also used as a backdrop for the performance.

The play presented is a radical attempt to regard the life of this great man. With important unpublished historical information, the path of Kapodistrias is shown from the perspective of the women he sacrificed for the sake of the only woman he served throughout his life: for free and independent Greece.

It traces the path that led Kapodistrias, a “worldly monk”, to his death, in his white clothes, to be embraced by his true love! By his Homeland!
