F18 / Cinema: “Florence Foster Jenkins”  (with Greek subtitles)
Faneromeni18 Arts Festival

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation collaborates with the “Friends of Cinema Society” for a series of free-admission screenings that promise to turn the courtyard of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation into an outdoor cinema for this summer’s funniest, most fascinating and delightful movies.

Three-time Oscar winner, Meryl Streep, plays Florence foster Jenkins, a cacophonous (to say the least) cult opera singer who “took New York by storm” in the 1930s and 1940s. This hilarious yet moving film is based on a true story.

Socialite New Yorker, Madame Florence, believes she is the opera singer par excellence in spite of her complete lack of technical competence. Her husband and agent, St Clair Bayfield, an English aristocrat and failed actor, maintains her illusion. When Florence decides to give a concert at the legendary Carnegie Hall in 1944, St Clair knows he is about to face the greatest challenge of his life.

Directed by: Stephen Frears
