F18 / Musical Narratations: “In the land of the giants: stories and music from Ireland and Scotland”

 Faneromeni 18 Arts Festival

What does make a storyteller want to create and tell stories? Popular storyteller Marina Katsari narrates Celtic stories from Ireland and Scotland and musicians Loïc Bléjean from Brittany (uilleann pipes) David Faure Brac from Côte d'Azur, France (Irish flutes, guitar) and Vaggelis Gettos (percussion) contribute to the creation of a magical atmosphere.

The yard of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation hosts an exquisite storytelling performance, in cooperation with the Embassy of Ireland in Cyprus.

Every single evening, a mighty Irish storyteller tells a new fairytale to the great king who asked him to stay at his service. But one day the storyteller runs out of ideas. He will find the solution only after he gets in and gets out of weird adventures, in the most surprising and magical way.

The fascinating stories which the storyteller tells via Marina Katsari’s voice (“The giant’s causeway”, “The hunchback of Knockgrafton” and “A storyteller’s adventures”) are followed, commented and accompanied by the sounds of the Irish (uilleann) pipes, flute, guitar and percussion and traditional Celtic motifs (jigs and reels). The magical atmospheres switch to groovy rhythms and, along with the narration, they create a unique performance which guides the audience to a distant but also universal –thus familiar- culture.
