F18 / Concert: “A Sea of Songs”
Faneromeni 18 Arts Festival
The smell, the sound, the hues of the sea that connects the Mediterranean countries under the Nicosian sky: a music performance in the courtyard of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, in the course of which traditional melodies of the Mediterranean countries unite as one.
Songs that have been passed on from one generation to another, songs that have left their mark on us, songs we might never really heard before but sound familiar; and other songs, that have imbued our memories.
For the first time in Cyprus, the Estudiadina of Nea Ionia Band presents an amalgam of music sounds and songs of the Greeks, interwoven with those of the rest of the Mediterranean peoples, showing clearly that music is the common language of all.
This journey with the sounds and timbres of Estuadiadina is reminiscent of a caravan that sets out from the East and the Balkans to reach the Greek-speaking villages of Southern Italy and Portugal’s fados, and from then on to Greece of yesterday and today.
The daily lives of each and every one of us, made up of simple and fascinating incidents, are given to veneration by way of songs. This is a performance replete with interpretation by a Band that respects the Music, traditions and cultural heritage of the Mediterranean.
