VI Workshop on Economic History of Cyprus of Bank of Cyprus Historical Archive

"Economic transformation in Cyprus and the Levant, 1850-1939"

In collaboration with the University of Cyprus and the European University Cyprus

The Bank of Cyprus Historical Archive organizes the sixth Workshop on Economic History of Cyprus. The main objective of the Workshop will be the economic development and change in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean Basin (often collectively known as the “Levant”) during the 19th and early 20th century.

There is a lack of adequate knowledge and research on Modern and Economic History of Cyprus. The aim of the Workshop is to familiarize the post-graduate students of History and Economics with sources of economic and financial character, which are kept at the Bank of Cyprus Historical Archive. The ultimate purpose is to highlight the importance of economic perspectives in the history of the island.

The workshop will start with introductory speeches on the thematic topic of the Workshop and the contents of the Bank of Cyprus Historical Archive. Then, the participants will organize themselves into groups of study of primary sources from the various sections of the Historical Archive, which will be delivered to them. The groups will analyze the material and prepare a 5-minute presentation related to it. The number of available seats will not exceed the forty (40) based on ‘first come first served’ policy.
