The Dancing Statue

The Dancing Statue is the title of the new educational programme of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation for the Museum of George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides (donated by Clio and Solon Triantafyllides). The George and Nefeli Giabra Pierides collection encompasses more than 600 specimens spanning a wide range of Cypriot history and archaeology from the Early Bronze Age (2500 BC) to the Medieval period (16th century).

The general title of the educational programme is The dancing statue and features three different sub-programmes addressed to 4th, 5th and 6th grade elementary school pupils. Composed by artist Maria Loizidou, the programmes aim at acquainting the children with specimens of ancient Cypriot art. The goal is for students to grasp the common thread that runs through the island’s history by observing appealing shapes, sketches and forms they can identify with.

The programmes are supported by specially designed material, which permit the children to interact and develop their creative skills and imagination.

The programme lasts about 90 minutes and it is delivered during school hours.

The Dancing Statue will also be held during the school year 2012-13. It will again be addressed to 4th, 5th and 6th grade elementary school pupils.
