What is by now a lovely classic film is brought to the biggest screen in Nicosia at Faneromeni 17. The highly popular Festival of the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with Lefkosiazo, carries on its summer cinema for another week.

Brought to life on celluloid is the story of Bridget, a 32-year old neurotic Londoner. Effectively the girl next door, sincere, spontaneous but also imperfect mostly as far as looks go, Bridget is not after any male model; she’s looking for the man who will understand and love her for whom she is. In an effort to put her messy life in order, she has an unfortunate amorous affair with her boss, while a high-flying lawyer and old family friend is trying to approach her.

“Bridget Jones’ Diary” invites us to the unique world of a woman going through an age crisis, as loneliness comes knocking on her door. Renée Zellweger is impeccable as Bridget, a protagonist that doesn’t fit the standard Hollywood ‘mold’, slightly overweight and largely unlucky in her personal life.

Directed by: Sharon Maguire

Starring: Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, Colin Firth et al.

* Open-air cinema screenings are co-organized with the “Lefkosiazo” volunteer group and the Municipality of Nicosia
