Honorary distinction conferred by the Academy of Athens

on “Cyprus and Geology, Science-Environment, Culture”

published by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation

Every year, the Academy of Athens, the Supreme Spiritual Institution of Hellenism, honours individuals, groups and associations for outstanding contribution to their land or country, by conferring awards and honorary distinctions aimed at cultivating and promoting Sciences, the Letters and Fine Arts.

During the annual Celebratory Session of the Academy of Athens, which took place on 19 December 2014 at the Academy Megaron, the Institute granted awards and commendations for 2014. Among those honoured were geologists Georgios Constantinou and Ioannis Panagides, commended on the suggestion of the Class of Positive Sciences.

An excerpt from the report of Mr Vasilios Ch. Petrakos, Academy of Athens’ Secretary-General, was read out during the award ceremony:

“Praise is conferred on Messrs. Georgios Constantinou and Ioannis Panagides for their book “Cyprus and Geology, Science-Environment-Culture” (published by the Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation), an arduous work where natural sciences are combined with history and civilization and where the interaction is revealed between exact sciences and humanities”.
