A Journey in the Geology of Cyprus
Series of lectures

The Bank of Cyprus Cultural Foundation invites to the 8th lecture titled

Geomythology - The Voyage of Argo: the Argonautica

(The lecture will be delivered in Greek)

Geomythology offers the geological explanation of the legend of the Golden Fleece and the expedition of the Argonauts.  The Golden Fleece is the earliest record of ruining gold with a special method in Colchis.  At the same time Colchis was an important metallurgical centre of production of the alloy of copper and tin (bronze) the production of which declined dramatically in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Greek cities were searching for new sources of it.
